Sometimes the items we acquire for the site go well beyond SUPER RARE. This prototype was sourced from a 1980s toy shop sales representative, who was given it as a sample, to try and gauge the enthusiasm for it amongst his shop owning clients.

This a 1983 Handheld game unlike any other. The original version of this console was called the 3D Gamemate, and was produced by V-Tech. Like the Tomytronic 3D games, you play by looking through the goggles and control the action with buttons on top of the unit. Unlike those Tomy games, the Gamemate took cartridges - strange hybrid cartridges with double screens built into them, allowing more than one game to be played on the system.

Now, the 3D Gamemate is already one of the rarest handheld consoles ever produced, thought to have sold less than five hundred units. But this particular handheld, is quite probably the only one left on the planet.

This is the Hales Stereovision, a UK prototype version of the Gamemate, featuring black and gold casing. This handheld was unreleased, and exists in prototype form only.

Condition of this game is Excellent, fully tested and working - as can be seen on our youtube channel - and includes the original box, console manual and Formula 500 game cartridge with manual. Also included are the two other releases for this machine, Death Corridor and Escape, each with their original packaging. There were originally supposed to be six game releases, but the other three were cancelled.

The outer box is for the 3D Gamemate, and has been labelled as such, explaining that this is a preliminary box, waiting for the Hales Stereovision box to be designed.

And yes, an incredibly expensive item, and the rarest handheld we've ever had in stock. The Entex Adventurevision has regularly sold for over £10K boxed and complete, and there is over a thousand of those out in the wild. This is truly a museum piece. How often do you have a chance to own the only example of a games console there is?
